Planning a PA System for a Mosque, School or Factory

PA System Planning Guide

A public address system that is sized correctly delivers clear announcements to every corner of a building without distortion. An undersized one strains, and an oversized one wastes budget. Here is how we approach the design.

Start with the speakers

Different spaces call for different speakers. Ceiling speakers suit offices, classrooms and corridors with false ceilings. Wall and column speakers cover halls and prayer areas. Horn speakers reach outdoor yards, car parks and factory floors where background noise is high. Garden speakers blend into landscaped areas. Count the speakers you need for even coverage before choosing an amplifier.

Size the amplifier

Add up the wattage taps of all speakers on a 100 V line, then add roughly 20 percent headroom. A 60 W mixer amplifier is enough for a small office; a large mosque or a school campus may need several hundred watts, split into zones so that announcements can be directed to specific areas. Booster amplifiers extend a system when it grows.

Microphones and sources

Gooseneck or tabletop microphones suit fixed positions such as a mimbar or reception desk; wireless handheld and lavalier microphones give presenters freedom to move. Most modern mixer amplifiers include Bluetooth, USB and FM inputs for background music and recorded messages.

Cabling and zones

Use 100 V line speaker cable for long runs, label every zone, and keep the amplifier in a ventilated, dust-free rack. If evacuation announcements are required, look at voice alarm systems that meet EN 54.
