Face Recognition or Fingerprint: Which Attendance Terminal Fits Your Office?
Biometric attendance terminals have replaced punch cards and paper registers in most Bangladeshi offices and factories. The two dominant technologies, fingerprint and face recognition, each suit different environments.
Fingerprint terminals
Fingerprint readers from ZKTeco, Hikvision and Virdi are reliable, affordable and compact. They work well in offices and schools where hands are clean and dry. In factories, workshops and kitchens, worn or dirty fingerprints can slow verification, and shared contact surfaces are a hygiene concern.
Face recognition terminals
Face terminals verify a person in well under a second from a comfortable distance, with no contact. Modern devices use deep-learning algorithms and anti-spoofing to reject photos and videos, and many models combine face, fingerprint, card and PIN in one unit. They cost more than fingerprint-only devices but handle large workforces and busy shift changes far better.
Questions to ask before you buy
- How many staff will be enrolled, and how fast must a queue clear at shift change?
- Does the terminal also need to open a door, or is it attendance only?
- Will it be installed outdoors or in direct sunlight? Look for an IP65 rating and a wide dynamic range camera.
- Does your payroll or HR software need an export, or can the vendor’s attendance software produce the reports you need?
